Essential information for primary careHigh-quality primary care is an integral part of identification, support, and treatment of individuals with risk of/ dependent substance use. Education with an Addiction Medicine Specialist supports clinicians dealing with emerging issues with patients with risk of/ dependent substance use and responding to complexities.

Why GPs should attend?

Dependent substance use is a chronic, relapsing condition which is difficult to treat. GPs and other primary care professionals have a key role to play in prevention, early detection and management of substance misuse and dependence.

About the facilitator

Dr Judson has over 25 years of experience working in the drug and alcohol field in New Zealand and Australia.Dr Judson works within a harm reduction and mental health recovery model.Dr Judson has worked for Lives Lived Well (LLW) since 2014. He provides addiction medicine support to the primary health care workforce in Western and Far Western New South Wales and Queensland. Additionally, Dr Judson provides clinical leadership and advice to LLW services.Since 2014 Dr Judson has been a member of the Education Committee for the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine.
