Strangulation, if not immediately fatal, carries a risk of significant morbidity and mortality in the hours, weeks and months following the trauma. It is recognised as a serious crime and, in the domestic violence setting, is a marker for escalating violence and a risk factor for murder. GPs can help make a difference.
This session will cover the following Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the possible physical sequelae of strangulation
• Identify the tools to assess and document injuries
• Develop an approach to investigate and manage strangulation presentations
• Detail options for psychosocial support referral
