Case Studies in Sleep Disordered Breathing
When | Thursday 10th September 2020 7.30pm to 8.30pm |
Where | Online via GoTo Meeting |
Sleep disordered breathing is highly prevalent in the adult community and is associated with a range of cardiometabolic conditions. Adequately treating sleep apnoea improves excessive daytime somnolence, sleep related quality of life, reduces risk of motor vehicle accidents and can form the basis of primary & secondary prevention for a number of co-morbidities. This presentation will go through a number of case studies that will explore this complex relationship and define treatment protocols to optimise the management of your patient.
This session will cover the following learning outcomes:
- Recognise and treat sleep disordered breathing in sleepy drivers
- Identify the associations between sleep disordered breathing and cardiovascular disease
- Understand the current evidence surrounding treatment of sleep disordered breathing in primary and secondary prevention
- Interpret the basics of a polysomnogram
- Recognise the overlap between sleep disordered breathing and other non-respiratory sleep conditions (e.g. insomnia, parasomnias, leg movement disorders etc.)
