GP Health & Wellbeing – Sharing our stories

Where Online Webinar via Go-to Meeting

GPs are an integral part of people’s lives, and patients often share their most life-changing and intimate moments, and this can be a tough and challenging load to carry. GPs instinctively prioritise patient care and wellbeing, but can downplay, delay or even ignore our own health needs due to busy workloads, other commitments and fatigue. GPs are often reluctant to share our own stories or seek support at times when it would be helpful.

Dr Hilton Koppe, GP, has generously agreed to start the conversation by sharing elements of his personal story of wellbeing, to create an informal and safe space where genuine and open dialogue can emerge. Together we will explore the challenges we face and discuss the importance of self-care, taking care of colleagues and building resilience in the ever-changing world of medicine. Key conversation points will include current issues being experienced by rural and remote GPs, strategies to optimise wellbeing and information about services specifically available to help doctors stay well and to access support at any time.

This conversation will cover the following learning outcomes:

  • Recognise health challenges for your doctor colleagues and for yourself
  • Formulate strategies to prevent burnout and recognise the need for support
  • Recognise the importance of having your own GP
  • Access relevant GP support services

In conversation:

Dr Hilton Koppe, GP

Dr Jenny Geraghty and Dr Annie Balcomb, local GPs

Dr Ameeta Patel and Dr Kathryn Hutt, Doctors’ Health Advisory Service NSW
