Joining the Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) workforce community opens the door to numerous opportunities for networking, professional development and ongoing support. In response to national GP workforce shortages, the Department of Health, Disability & Aging (DoHDA) has funded the establishment of the General Practice Workforce Planning and Prioritisation (WPP) program until the end of December 2025.
The WPP Program undertakes analysis and provides advice to help guide the GP training colleges’ selection and placement allocation processes. This involves data analysis and stakeholder engagement to gain intelligence and test assumptions.
The WPP Program reports submitted to the DoHDA, RACGP and ACRRM are used to inform and guide placements decisions and build training capacity.

The WNSW PHN values strong input from local and regional stakeholders to ensure all insights are captured and reflected in the GP WPP advice. To gather these insights, we utilise our General Practice WPP Advisory Group, surveys, and consultation.
