Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) Chief Operating Officer Bettina McMahon visited Dubbo last week to discuss the rollout of the My Health Record Program with local healthcare providers.

Ms McMahon, pathologist and ADHA clinical lead Juliana Iles Mann and representatives from Western NSW Primary Health Network met with a range of healthcare providers including general practitioners, pharmacists and staff from Western NSW Local Health District.

Ms McMahon said the trip was an excellent opportunity to see how Western NSW healthcare providers are quickly adopting digital health technologies to help improve patient care.

“We all have a lot to learn from healthcare providers in Western NSW, who are using technology to provide the highest quality health services to people in this part of the country,” Ms McMahon said.

“Whether it’s the Local Health District providing emergency services into Cobar hospital from Dubbo, Dr Ai-Vee Chua’s Dubbo Family Practice or Lisa Gibson’s Orana Mall pharmacy who routinely use the My Health Record – this community understands the challenges in providing healthcare over vast areas and is using technology to serve their needs.”

My Health Record is an online summary of a person’s key health information. It allows them to share and control their health information with doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers from anywhere, at any time.

Australians with a Medicare or Veterans’ Affairs Card will have a My Health Record at the end of 2018, unless they choose not to. The opt out period will run until 15 November 2018.
