Empowering our Communities - Rural Minds Roadshow
The Empowering our Communities grants program offers support to people and communities struggling with drought. The grants fund wellbeing initiatives, upskill workers in the delivery of mental health services and provide information and training to community leaders and members. Over the coming weeks and months the Western NSW Primary Health Network (PHN) will bring you stories of perseverance and resilience from some of the communities the program is supporting.
Rural Minds is a mental health program designed for people living and working in rural Australia, by people living and working in rural Australia.
Run by Rural and Remote Mental Health, the program will cover 10 locations across north-western NSW throughout May and June.
The program is driven from the community level, with individuals and groups encouraged and empowered to look out for each other.
“The three and a half hour workshops give people the capacity to interpret the signs and symptoms if something is going on and when and where they can do something about it,” program coordinator Luke Smith said.
“We want to inform people about mental health and suicide, so they can learn basic skills around intervention and prevention.”
The workshops are open to all community members.
