A free, walk-in mental health service has opened its doors in Bathurst, increasing access to essential support services in the town.

Medicare cards and appointments won’t be needed to access the Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC), which will offer a range of services tailored to the community’s unique needs.

The Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN) is proud to partner with Stride, Wellways and Clarity Health care in the delivery of these essential services to the Bathurst community.

Drop in and see the team at Shop 2, 52 Durham St, Bathurst, during the following opening hours: Monday to Friday 11am – 7pm, Saturday to Sunday 4pm – 8pm, and Public holidays 4pm – 8pm.

Who can access the Medicare Mental Health Centre?

WNSW PHN CEO, Brad Porter said that the MMHC will provide a range of support for adults facing short and medium-term mental health challenges including peer-led and clinical support.

“As well as immediate support for people in distress, the MMHCs will help people to navigate mental health services, with referrals, information, and support for family members or carers.

“Mental health and First Nations health are two of our biggest priorities.

The MMHC services will be culturally safe and accessible for diverse and vulnerable communities, including First Nations people, and LGBTQIA+ communities,” Mr Porter said.

Why choose Medicare Mental Health Service?

Stride CEO, Drikus Van der Merwe said that Stride is very excited to expand its services to Bathurst.

“You don’t need an appointment, Medicare card, or referral to access our services. Just walk in, and our team will be ready to assist, whether you’re in crisis or seeking support.

“The use of telehealth and digital mental health platforms will ensure greater access to the right support.

“We use a collaborative approach, working in partnership with Wellways, Clarity Health and others to provide safe, inclusive and holistic care.

“Stride has a history of innovative and practical mental health supports. Alongside our partners Wellways and Clarity Health, we look forward to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the Bathurst community for years to come,” Mr Van der Merwe said.

The MMHC’s, formerly called Head to Health, are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care through the Western NSW Primary Health Network (WNSW PHN).
