It is recognised that patients are often referred back to general practice, particularly in rural areas, to assist with surveillance after curative intent treatment has been completed. Florian will explore practice guidelines to ensure general practice patients have early potentially curative intervention in the event of recurrence.

Breast cancer is common and management has markedly changed in the last decade with regards to radiotherapy. Susan’s talk will focus on the modern approach to breast cancer in radiotherapy including rationale, logistics and management; what side-effects are expected and simple guides on management strategies.

Learning outcomes

• Outline what imaging and pathology tests are required for surveillance in each major cancer type (breast, prostate, colon)
• Identify appropriate frequency of investigations and the reduction in frequency as time from curative treatment increases
• Explain the role of contemporary radiotherapy in breast cancer management and common treatment courses
• Identify common skin and lung side-effects from contemporary breast radiotherapy
