Presented by Professor Glen Maberly, Senior Staff Specialist (Endocrinology) at Blacktown and Mt Druitt Hospitals and Director, Western Sydney Diabetes at Western Sydney Local Health District.

Western Sydney Local Health District, NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, Western Sydney Primary Health Network, Pricewaterhouse Copper and Diabetes NSW and ACT have developed a strategy to ‘take the heat out of the Western Sydney diabetes hotspot.’  This session will discuss this model of diabetes prevention and management and will explore new ways of working between diabetes specialties and general practice to achieve the goal of increasing the proportion of healthy population, slowing the progressing towards being at risk of diabetes and reducing the size of the risk population.

Prof. Maberly will also explore the importance of the underpinning strategies of monitoring and advocacy, enabling the problem to be tracked and the impact if this initiative to be evaluated to create a broader awareness of the diabetes epidemic and the path towards a healthier region.
