This education session will explore available lung cancer diagnostic tests and how to enhance a patient’s experience and outcomes by working collaboratively to embed the FastTrack Clinic referral pathway in local general practice to minimise preventable diagnostic delays.

This meeting will also provide an update on the International Lung Screen Trial (ILST) currently underway around Australia, with recruitment planned for Dubbo and surrounding areas.

It will summarise key lung cancer screening studies including the National Lung Screening Trial (USA) and NELSON study (Europe) that have shown a survival benefit from CT screening of high-risk subjects.

It will review the experience of international centres on recruitment to lung cancer screening programs, in particular reasons why patients may not present for screening.

It will review the potential roles of general practitioners and primary health care in identifying and supporting high-risk candidates for screening with, if necessary, concomitant smoking cessation support.
